Cast Compliment

BEGINNING

My senior manager asked me to start working on this logo around end of September/ beginning of October. I took notes for the main vision he had which was a name tag that said #CastCompliment. He also wanted it to be made into a “template”, so you could insert a photo and post on Facebook.

We did this several times, but eventually a lot was lost in translation, and it became confusing. I was on version 38 at this point. I ended up taking a week long break from the project, so everyone can regroup on what was wanted.

IN THE END

From a design aspect, we kept the name tag and the hashtag. I added the Disney feel by sprinkling in some pixie dust and a Mickey element. They also loved the idea of having several variations of the logo that’s why in the Style Guide (below) I gave specific instructions on how to use the logo correctly based on the photos posted.

The #CastCompliment logo was launch Friday, January 24, 2020 for National Compliment Day at Walt Disney World. It will be shared and posted on other Disney social media accounts for Worldwide Compliment Day in March 2020.

OBJECTIVE

Since the original team that managed #CastCompliment started taking a new direction for cast recognition, our department decided to take over the campaign social media wise. We love recognizing cast and the amazing things they do, so by designing a brand to the hashtag it allowed authenticity and a sense of an award to be recognized.

THE GREATEST GAME OF TELEPHONE

I am sure you can predict how the rest of this story is going to go.

I gave my first around of drafts to my manager, my manager gave it to my senior manager, and my senior manager would look at it with my director and say: Change this or add this. The feedback trickled back down, I would make the changes, and it would go back up.

GETTING OVER THE HUMP

About a week later I had a break through with the project.

I created this presentation on the left. It contained facts about our FB Page, Users demographics, design preferences, and design trends.

I also added in “bubble letters” they wanted to see. I gave them the color combinations they wanted to see. We even changed the hashtag per request. But I then created items based on what they really wanted.
